How to Celebrate Fall at Siena

Fall is a time to get cozy with friends and family around a fire while roasting marshmallows and enjoying the beautiful, crisp weather. The Capital Region is no stranger to Autumn and all the exciting activities that go along with it. It is incredibly easy to keep yourself occupied with autumnal festivities in and around Siena. 

If you love gorgeous scenery and delicious food, apple picking would be the best fit for you! There are a plethora of orchards minutes from Siena, some of which include Bowman Orchards, Indian Ladder Farms, and Cider Belly Donuts. While you are strolling up and down the many rows of apple trees, be sure to try the freshly-baked apple cider donuts waiting for you at check out. If pastries are not to your taste, there is a selection of kettle corn as well! In addition to the delicious treats and apple picking, there are also adorable farm animals that people of all ages can watch graze the green fields. 

If venturing off-campus isn’t your preferred way to celebrate fall, then a scenic walk might be of interest. While you can go elsewhere for a nice fall walk, as there are many great parks in the area, Siena has some of the best views. Taking time to walk down the Thompson Trail to get some fresh air and see all the leaves changing colors is a great way to relieve some stress. If you end up looking for a change of scenery, then you can take a trip to Voorheesville and visit Thacher Park. The car ride is under an hour and you will be rewarded with some of the most colorful views in the state! 

Fall is also a great time to decorate your living space: dorm rooms can always use a pop of autumnal color or a sprinkle of pumpkin spice. Pumpkins are a great, inexpensive way to add a little bit of fall to your room. You can go to the grocery store to pick one up, but it would be much more fun to gather some friends together and visit a pumpkin patch. Pressed for time? A plastic jack-o-lantern can add just as much flair while offering a large variety of colors, lights and aesthetics. The decorating possibilities are endless! 

While there are many relaxing activities that one can do during this time, if you are someone who likes to have an adrenaline rush, a haunted house might be the perfect way to spend a chilly night. There are plenty that you can venture to, but there happens to be one only twenty minutes away from Siena! Field of Horrors in Troy, New York will leave you feeling a bit on edge. This location offers a wide variety of scary activities: you can take a trip on a haunted hayride, walk through a zombie crypt or a mummy tomb! There will never be a shortage of fun and fear while at Field of Horrors.  

The Capital Region is the place to be during fall because there is always something fun to do in between studying for the next test and hanging out with friends. There are so many amazing options to choose from, but remember: sometimes the Siena tradition of visiting Casey’s, getting a warm beverage and relaxing by the fire pit is always a great way to celebrate autumn a few feet from your dorm room.
