My Top 10 Favorite Movies at the Moment

I have watched many movies before, and have a list in my phone of over 75 movies that I want to watch (a list that I add to every day).  I can say that my favorite movies change quite often, or the list gets bigger, it honestly depends.  For this list, I’m going over my top 10 favorite movies as of right now and giving the reasons as to why I love them so much.

10. “The Best of Me”

As a high school favorite of mine, this romantic drama is definitely a tearjerker and has been a movie I’ve watched multiple times before. If you are someone who is into the romantic drama movie genre and want to watch something that will surely make you cry, this is the movie for you.

9. “The Great Gatsby”

Based on a phenomenal book, Leonardo Dicaprio stars as Jay Gatsby and he plays the character very well. The first time I watched this movie was for a class in high school after we read the book, and I really enjoyed the movie. I am also a huge fan of Leonardo Dicaprio so that might make me biased, but I genuinely thought this was a great movie that captured elements of the book very well. If you’ve read the book and want to watch the movie, I’d say go for it (and even if you haven’t read the book, the movie is a must-watch!).

8. “The Social Network”

I have seen this movie a couple of times before, and Jesse Eisenberg plays Mark Zuckerberg so well, you’d believe it was him.  Based on the story of the rise of Facebook and the drama behind it, “The Social Network” is a very interesting movie to watch, and I would suggest seeing it when you get the time because it’s a pretty good movie.

7. “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape

This is a movie  I watched as a kid and recently have rewatched to have a better understanding.  As a heartwarming but also heartbreaking movie, its interesting storyline has you feeling many different emotions. Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio star as Gilbert and Arnie Grape.  We see the relationship between the two and their family, with Arnie being mentally impaired and always finding himself in trouble and the mother and her issues with weight. Gilbert holds a lot of the responsibility in the family, and this early 90’s film definitely is a different movie from what I have seen before.

6. “Fight Club”

Honestly, before watching this movie, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Let me just say that this movie was not what I thought it would be like at all. I mean that in a good way because this movie honestly blew me away with its fantastic storyline and its great ending. It is a long-time favorite since I have seen it! If you haven’t watched the film everyone has been talking about for years by this point, I recommend making it one of the movies you watch next.

5. “Insidious”

I used to be a huge scary movie lover, and “Insidious” has always been my favorite scary movie.  I would suggest watching “Insidious I” and “Insidious II” back-to-back or within a close time span because both of them are great, although the original will always be the best version.  If you are into scary movies that actually have a story behind them, this is the scary movie for you!

4. “The Truman Show”

I’ve only recently watched this movie after wanting to for so long, and it was something I couldn’t pause. Jim Carrey stars as Truman Burbank in this movie based on a life that is watched by EVERYONE.  And I mean everyone.  Everything in his life is essentially a setup that is broadcasted live. The “Truman Show” is a  psychological comedy-drama film, so if that sounds like something you would be interested in, I would highly recommend checking it out.

3. “The Game”

I actually had to watch this movie for a class I took here at Siena, and I’m so happy I did! The movie is action-packed, mind-blowing, and honestly, you’ll probably be guessing the entire movie what is actually going on. Michael Douglas stars as Nicholas Van Orton, a wealthy banker who only really cares about himself. In this mysterious thriller, you’ll see so many crazy things happen to Nicholas, and it’s a must-watch if you are into the mystery and thriller genre.

2. “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”

The interesting thing about this movie is that it isn’t your typical romance movie, it has much more to it.  Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet star as Joel and Clementine and we view their relationship alongside a medical procedure they both undergo to erase the memories they share with one another.  As much as I want to talk about this interesting movie, I just recommend you watch it even if you aren’t into romantic movies because I promise that it really isn’t like all the rest.

1. “Interstellar”

“Interstellar” is not only an incredible movie with a creative storyline and captivating images, but it is also heart-wrenching at the same time.  I find myself asking people all the time if they have seen this movie because I am a firm believer that everyone should. Totaling almost 3 hours from start to finish, it definitely is a long movie! However, I found myself interested in the events that were unfolding the whole time, which for a movie that long is quite impressive.
