Student Senate Update

Welcome back to Campus everyone! This semester, the Student Senate will be partnering with the Promethean to better communicate what we’re doing with the general student body. We are hoping to increase our transparency with the student body and hoping to engage with the Siena community more as a whole. We have had three meetings so far this semester, January 28th, February 4th and February 11th.

We Started off the Semester on January 28, 2020 with our first meeting of the semester. During this meeting, we heard from Rachel Jones, the director of AVI,  and Mike Papadopoulos, director of Public Safety. We also heard from Rachel Jones and Mike Papadopoulos at the February 4, 2020 meeting as well as the Office Of Community Living.

We have been working with the Office of Community Living and have updates on some business from last semester. Hines Hall will be getting a new elevator this summer and the Office of Community Living is in the process of shifting all the bed frames from the metal ones to wooden ones over the next three to four years.

We are also excited to announce that we are in the works of starting a project in Snyder Hall to create more seating space for students when they go to Bernie’s.

We would also like to thank everyone who came out to our club fair on Friday January 31, 2020. It was a great event and we were happy to see the club leaders engaging with the students in attendance.

Our Budget Allocation Committee and Audit team are both working to complete audits and budget requests for our clubs on campus.

Our Academics Committee will be starting to hold meetings on the second and fourth Monday of each month during free period. If you have any concerns about academics, please reach out to studentsenate@siena.edu to get in touch with committee members.

Our class councils are in full swing and are working to get fun events planned for the students in each class.

We are also interested in getting more input from students. We will be tabling in the SSU Atrium on February 19th to get input from students as to what their concerns are.

If you are interested in joining Student Senate, applications for a Senator-at-Large position and the Residential Associate Position are posted on SaintsConnect, we encourage all students to apply. That’s all from Student Senate for this issue, if you want a more detailed look at everything we’ve done so far this semester, check out the minutes from our meetings that are posted on the Student Senate page on SaintsConnect. If you have any questions or concerns, please come to Senate Meetings at 4:15 on Tuesdays, email us at studentsenate@siena.edu, or contact a Senator!
