SASE To The Rescue

A new spring semester means for most students new classes. Whether they are classes that are involved with a major or minor or classes that complete the core requirements it is so question that the work load will be heavy. Have no fear though, Siena’s SASE services are here to help. SASE, or student academic success and engagement, is one of the many benefits that Siena students have in order to be as successful as possible in the classroom.

SASE offers students a wide variety of professional staff members in order to receive guidance for their classes. These professionals are around to assist with anything from academic advising to policy issues. Along with the professional staff members, SASE also has trained peer advisors which are available to answer questions regarding classes and study skills.

One service that is widely used throughout the campus is the tutoring service that is offered. There are no charges or fees to attend and all peer tutors have been thoroughly trained by Siena staff members. There are two different types of tutoring offered; group and individual. The following are all the subjects that are covered in group tutoring:

  • Accounting
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Management
  • Math
  • Physics
  • Political Science
  • Philosophy
  • Psychology
  • Quantitive Business Analysis
  • Statistics

In order to request a private tutor students are required to attend at least three group tutoring sessions and completing the tutor request form found on the Tutoring Service Page. If the issue is time sensitive, however, a student may request one in person in Siena Hall 215.

As well as the amazing tutoring program, SASE offers academic support programming as well. One support system is a peer-led workshop that focuses on a variety of topics for the upcoming semester. Some topics include planning for registration and note taking in class. Dates for these workshops can be found posted around campus or on the SASE bulletin board.

SASE also has a program for students who might themselves on academic probation in which they can take a course called LEAP for one credit, pass/fail. This program works to enhance their study habits and skills. Similarly, any incoming freshman or trader student can take a zero to one credit course, pass/fail, to help decide a major and work on study habits and time management.

Siena College works hard to make sure than all undergrads are well taken care of and offer a wide variety of programs in order to do so. SASE is just one of the many services that are offered on campus to ensure that Siena students are being productive and successful in the classroom.
