Student Government Winter Elections Approaching

The Student Government Winter Elections are quickly approaching us. Now is the time to get involved and find your niche here on campus. These positions are open to all students who are willing to put the time and effort in, regardless of major and year. All who are interested in working to not just to sustain what has been implemented here on campus, but to make it better are encouraged to apply. There are many opportunities for students of all backgrounds to apply.

For Siena commuters, there is the Commuter Student Association. Several positions are open on this board so commuters, be sure to apply! The Student Event Board (SEB) plans the many fun events and activities held here on campus. SEB is responsible for the annual spring concert and Sienafest. Apply for a position and you can be apart of the fun of choosing an artist and planning the concert! SEB has several positions available and is looking for student positions to be filled. Another way to get involved is with the Student Senate. The Student Senate has a lot of responsibilities here on campus such as overseeing clubs and the distribution of student activity fees. Like all other positions, they are looking for responsible students who want to make Siena a better place for all. Finally, the Class Councils are looking for students to apply to these positions. Each year has a council, so students with the graduating years of 2021, 2022 and 2023 are needed to fill these positions.

These are all leadership positions that require students to be responsible, work well with others, and ensure that not only do they have the time to attend meetings but also the time to put in the work. It is a great opportunity not just to add another bullet to one’s resume but to learn leadership skills and have a say in what goes on here on Siena’s campus. Do not be someone who stands on the sidelines and complains about how things are run, apply and work to improve it. Some important dates to remember are that on October 24th, the election packets and petitions will become available on SAINTS connect. November 7th is the deadline for petitions to be submitted, and they are due by 8:00 p.m. that day. The way to submit them is by placing them in the submission box in the SSU leadership lounge. On November 11th all candidates must meet in Siena Hall 324 either during free period (12:30) or at 9:00 p.m. to go over rules and other important information. Speech night takes place on November 19th at 9:00 p.m . in SSU 240. All candidates are required to get up and speak. Finally, November 21st is election day. All who are interested in any of these positions are encouraged to apply. No background experience or specific major is required, just an interest in being a voice for fellow Saints. Good luck to those running for a position and for those not interested in applying, don’t forget to vote!
