Former Congressman Chris Gibson will be joining Siena’s political science and history department faculty in the fall of 2020. Gibson served as a Congressman from New York’s 19th district for three years, and prior to that held a position in the United States Army as an officer. Gibson is a Siena college graduate, obtaining his bachelor’s degree with the class of 1986 in history. Many believe that Gibson can bring with him, not only his extensive knowledge in the world of political science, but also his experience as a member of congress. Along with this Gibson will offer his experience on the battlefield in his history lectures with previous U.S Army experience. According to news10.com, in a press release earlier this month, Gibson spoke about his excitement about coming to Siena and why he choose this campus.

“We have young folks here that are here for the right reasons and are here for the right reasons and excited about getting out into life and to make a difference. To be a part of a faculty that is focused exclusively on them, that is another special demotion about Siena, is the focus is on the teaching.”

Siena College is a community focused on education and in doing so the teaching staff makes it a point to communicate and build relationships with their students. Gibson will bring with him his communication skills and apply that to making sure his students are as successful as possible as well as focusing on his attention to detail. In his press conference at Siena College earlier this month, he mentioned that he wanted to be able to teach his students leadership skills.

Although 2020 will be Gibson’s first appearance as a professor at Siena, he has extensive experience in teaching. According to wnyt.com, Gibson was a professor at the U.S Military Academy at West Point in the American politics department as well as a visiting professor for foreign policy at Williams College. Gibson also has a book published, where on the Amazon description says that he tells his readers about the concepts that conservatives should be looking at in order to “protect the future of America.” The book, entitled Rally Point: Five Task to Unite the Country and Revitalize the American Dream, will focus on how to better join our country alongside the idea of a more practical American dream.

The entirely of the Siena community is eager about Chris Gibson’s anticipated arrive and welcome him with open arms.
