In case you missed it, the 68th annual Grammy Awards happened on February first, and did not leave fans disappointed. The stars arrived on the red carpet with their finest outfits and the hope that they would win. The show opened with an outstanding performance by popstar and grammy winner Sabrina Carpenter of her hit song “Manchild.” There were other performances by well known artists like Lady Gaga, who performed her popular single “Abracadabra,” and Bruno Mars, who performed twice: “Apt” with Rosé and his new hit song “I Just Might.” Justin Bieber also performed his song “Yukon.”
Many talented artists were nominated this year for multiple categories. Some of the notable winners include Billie Eilish, for song of the year; Lady Gaga, for best pop vocal album and best pop dance recording; Olivia Dean, for best new artist; Lola Young, for best pop solo performance; and Kendrick Lamar and SZA, for record of the year.
The biggest award of the night, Album of the Year, was given to Bad Bunny for his album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos.” He expressed his emotions and opinions in his speech, such as when he called out ICE for their recent actions in the United States, as did winners Olivia Dean and Billie Eilish. Eilish stated in her speech, “No one is illegal on stolen land,” to which the audience erupted in applause of support. Others showed their support for the cause by wearing “Ice Out” pins.
The best new artist category was a close competition, with many new, popular artists being nominated. This included Addison Rae, Katseye, Alex Warren, Olivia Dean, Sombr, The Marias, Loen Thomas, and Lola Young. Katseye, the girl group who blew up this past year, performed their hit song “Gnarly” right after Addison Rae performed “Fame is a Gun.”
Some believe that the biggest snub of the night was Sabrina Carpenter, as she received six nominations for her newest album “Man’s Best Friend” and her hit single “Manchild” and didn’t win any of them. However, she remained a good sport while watching her friends and fellow artists win. Others say that Chappell Roan was also robbed of record of the year and pop solo performance with her single “The Subway,” that was released last summer.
The 2026 Grammys was definitely a show you do not want to miss. With predictable wins and shocking snubs, we as music listeners can only hope for an equally exciting show next year.
