On Mar. 9th at 1:00 o’clock, Siena students gathered together in the Sarazen Student Union to find out who the lead performing artist was going to be at the school’s annual festival, Siena Fest. The Student Events Board spends many hours every year figuring out who is going to be the best artist to put on an amazing show for students who are almost done with a hard year of schoolwork and extracurricular activities.
Days prior to the announcement, wherever one was on campus, students and faculty speculations about the artist could be heard. Even in one of my classes, the professor and some of the students were debating about who they thought the performer was going to be. There was a wide variety of guesses ranging from Dua Lipa to Jack Harlow, and even Drake!
While those were great guesses, the artist that will be performing at Siena Fest is going to be Swae Lee! Swae Lee is best known for his chart-topping hit “Black Beatles.” This song became an overnight sensation due to a viral 2016 internet challenge. The challenge was referred to as the mannequin challenge where people would stand “frozen” like mannequins, hence the name. Swae Lee is known for other songs such as “Perplexing Pegasus,” “Swang,” “Sunflower,” and many more. In just a few short weeks, Swae Lee along with an unknown special guest opener will be putting on a fantastic show for Siena students.
On Apr. 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Marcelle Athletic Complex (MAC) you and your friends can be prepared for a long, fun night of singing and dancing. One can only hope that Swae Lee will ask the crowd to do a huge mannequin challenge as a nostalgic throwback to 2016.
